Running a business?

You built a team at work. At home you're still doing everything.

A house manager runs the home the way you'd staff a function at work: a role, a person, a system. Founders staff every function in the business and none at home. The household runs on the same logic as the company: define the role, hire the right person, give them ownership and a system. A house manager is that hire, and we run the search the way you'd want your recruiter to.

What people are saying

On the highest-leverage hire at home.

“I am FULLY convinced there is no higher leverage hire than an EXPERIENCED house manager/personal assistant. We are OBSESSED with the house manager Sage Haus brought to us.”
Adley Kinsman, founder and CEO
  • Ownership, not tasks

The house manager owns areas of the home the way a lead owns a function: kitchen, supplies, vendors, logistics. You get a weekly report, not a daily question.

  • Home as HQ

If you work from the house, the house is also the office. Several families below are founders whose home needed running as both.

  • Flat fee

Not a percentage of salary. One fee for the search, in two payments. You'd never pay a recruiter a cut of a hire's wages forever; you don't here either.

The gap

Every function at work is staffed. Here's the one at home.

Founders tell us the same thing: they'd never run the business the way they run the house. The fix is the one you already know: a role, a person, a system.

How the house runs now

  • You are procurement, facilities, logistics and catering
  • Decisions interrupt the workday: the plumber, the return, the dinner
  • The partner carries the overflow, or nobody does
  • Evenings and weekends go to catch-up
  • Nothing is documented; everything lives in your head

The numbers

Your hourly value against the household's hours.

Founders know their hourly value. The calculator puts it next to the hours the house takes and shows the return on a house manager at the hours you choose.

  • The cost today, including your own time
  • Hours back for the business
  • Return on the search at one and two years

How the calculator works

  1. 1What you pay today for sitters, delivery, cleaners and errands, plus the hours you put in yourself
  2. 2A house manager at the hours and rate you choose, with W-2 costs if you want them
  3. 3How you find them: a flat fee, an agency percentage, or your own time
  4. 4The return on the search at one and two years, and the hours you get back

Nothing is filled in for you. Add the Sage Haus fee from your call when you have it.

Questions families ask

Before you book.

Is this an executive assistant for the house?

Closer than you'd think, with hands. A house manager owns the physical running of the home as well as the admin: supplies, resets, vendors, meals, errands, the calendar. Some roles include EA-style admin; the scope is yours to set.

How much of my time does the search take?

A kickoff call, feedback on the job description, two or three finalist interviews and a decision. We do the sourcing, screening and scheduling.

Can the house manager make decisions without me?

That's the point. The onboarding call sets decision rights: what they handle, what they flag, a spending threshold. The Home Systems Playbook gives them the operating manual.

What will I pay the house manager?

Founder households often scope 30 to 40 hours, so the weekly cost sits at the upper end. Typically $25 to $50 an hour depending on scope and location, higher in New York and the Bay Area. They're a W-2 household employee; we point you to a payroll partner that handles taxes and pay stubs. Our own fee is covered on the call.

How do you vet candidates?

We run the search the way you'd want a recruiter to. Regional hiring specialists source from local boards and our certified talent pool. Every candidate is screened and interviewed by a human before you meet them. References, a background check and an employment agreement come before any offer, and a one-time re-match is available within 90 days.

How long does it take?

If the business has a date, we work back from it. About four to six weeks from an approved job description to your first candidates. If you have a date in mind, we work back from it.

What if it doesn't work out?

If the role needs to change as the business does, the guarantee covers it. A one-time re-match with up to two new candidates inside the first 90 days, no extra fee, provided you did the onboarding call and the six-week check-in with us.

My partner thinks it's an indulgence.
