About House Managers

What is a House Manager?

A House Manager is your behind-the-scenes MVP—someone who keeps your home running smoothly by handling tasks like laundry, grocery shopping, meal planning, restocking supplies, coordinating vendors, and managing home organization projects. Think of them as a modern Mary Poppins who brings order and calm to the chaos. Read more about house managers on our blog here.

How can a House Manager help me?

They lighten your mental and physical load so you can focus on what matters most—whether that’s work, quality time with your kids, or simply catching your breath. Many clients gain back 10-40+ hours per week, reduce family stress, and feel more present in their daily lives.

Do House Managers provide childcare?

Some do—but not all. Many House Managers are open to occasional childcare, like school pick-ups, supervising and playing with the kids after school, or filling in during core working hours. If this particular role is a majority childcare, we recommend working with one of our trusted partner agencies to consider a nanny.  During your kickoff consultation, we’ll help you define what kind of support you need and build a job description that reflects your household priorities.

How much does it cost to employ a House Manager?

Rates vary based on your location, the responsibilities and qualifications required, and whether you're hiring part-time or full-time support. In general, you can expect to pay $25–$45/hour (or more) for experienced professionals. During our kickoff call, we’ll discuss your budget, make recommendations based on your local market, and help you define a competitive rate that aligns with your needs.

How do I pay my household employee?

While the payment method is ultimately up to you, most clients choose to use a household payroll provider to set up direct deposit, withhold taxes, and stay compliant with employment laws. As part of our service, we’ll walk you through everything you need to consider as a household employer—from payroll and taxes to liability and insurance—so you can feel confident and prepared.

what other considerations should I keep in mind?

How do I ensure our House Manager is successful once they join our family?

Like bringing on any new employee it’s critical to have clearly defined expectations for them and the role they are taking on. Because so many of our clients have never had a House Manager before, or are looking to improve their experience as an employer, we’ve streamlined the onboarding process for you! The Sage Haus Home Systems Digital Course & Playbook is a framework to help busy families define their own priorities and develop the systems that allow your House Manager to hit the ground running.

We handle the heavy lifting so you can confidently hire the right support for your home.

Why should I use a household Hiring service like Sage Haus?

Because you’re busy—and finding the right person is a full-time job. We take the guesswork out of hiring by creating custom job descriptions, vetting candidates, conducting interviews, checking references, and guiding onboarding. You don’t need to waste time on unqualified applicants or start from scratch. This is our zone of genius, we’ve done this hundreds of times—and we’re really good at it.

How long does it take to find a quality House Manager?

Our average search takes 4–6 weeks from job description approval to initial interviews. If you have a specific start date in mind, we recommend reaching out at least 8-10 weeks in advance so we can align with your timeline.

How much does it cost to work with Sage Haus for Hiring Services?

Our hiring services are $4,199. Payment is split into two parts— a 50% deposit to lock in your kickoff date, and the remaining 50% to be paid upon delivery of your top candidates.

Is there a minimum number of hours required for the support I'm looking for?

Not at all! Many families hire part-time House Managers (10–25 hours/week) while others need full-time help. We’ll work with you to define the ideal schedule based on your priorities and budget.

What kind of background check is included?

Sage Haus includes a criminal background check for all placements, conducted after a conditional offer is made and in accordance with state laws. The standard Basic-Plus package includes identity verification, a multi-jurisdictional criminal records search (including sex offender registries and OFAC lists), and a county-level court search covering the candidate’s current residence. This provides a strong level of due diligence for most household roles. If you’d like to add screenings like motor vehicle reports, drug testing, or employment verification, we’re happy to coordinate that—just note that any add-ons will be invoiced separately.

Does Sage Haus offer a guarantee for hiring?

While we can’t guarantee a hire (the final decision is always up to you and the candidate), we’re deeply committed to finding a great match. Our goal is to present you with two top candidates who align with the criteria we define together during your kickoff consultation.

If your newly hired employee leaves for any reason within the first 30 days following their start date, we’ll help you find two new candidates at no additional cost. This guarantee extends to 60 days if you have attended our Home Systems Digital Course.

Does Sage Haus offer a discount for previous clients?

Yes! We love working with repeat clients and referrals. If you've worked with us before, reach out directly and we’ll share your returning client discount.

What if I already found someone—can I still work with Sage Haus?

Yes! If you’ve already found someone great, but want help setting them (and yourself) up for success, we’ve got you. Our Home Systems Digital Course & Playbook is perfect for families who don’t need full recruiting but still want to formalize the role, clarify expectations, and build repeatable systems. We’ll help you turn a good hire into a great one—with tools to maximize their impact and reduce your mental load.

Do you offer support after the hire?

Absolutely. Beyond the 30-minute onboarding call that comes with our recruiting services, many families want to establish more structure and support to ensure long-term success. That’s where our Home Systems Digital Course & Playbook comes in—it’s packed with coaching videos, proven frameworks, and ready-to-use templates to help you and your new hire start strong, stay aligned, and build sustainable systems together.

About Home Systems

What are Home Systems?

Home Systems are a structured set of routines, tools, and processes designed to help families run their households more smoothly and equitably. They’re built to take the invisible work off one person’s plate—usually mom’s—and distribute it in a way that lightens the mental load. From shared checklists and clear roles to repeatable routines and onboarding tools for your support team, home systems make it easier to get the help you need and keep everything (and everyone) running without you having to be the default manager of it all.

What is the Home Systems Digital Course & Playbook?

Our Home Systems Digital Course & Playbook is the framework that walks you through how to set up your own Home Systems - from building your Household HQ to documenting the repeatable Home Systems (aka processes) for Feeding the Family, Cleaning the Home, and much more. Our digital course is a two hour tutorial on how to make the most of these systems, PLUS lifetime access to the playbook that allows you to document and collaborate with the rest of your support team.
